I grew up in a boarding school, far from home. You learn independence early in a place like that, and you also learn to ignore your body. Sleep was whatever was left over. Recovery was never something I took seriously, because nothing around me ever measured it.
What stayed with me more was being away from family while they were unwell. People I loved were living with cardiovascular problems, and from a dormitory hundreds of miles away there was no real way to know how they were doing day to day. The tools that could have told us existed. They were simply priced for someone else.
Knowing your own blood pressure trend, your heart's rhythm, your sleep, should not be a luxury good.
That is the gap JiVa Labs is built to close. The JiVa Band, the app and the care team behind it exist so that a family in Nairobi or Mombasa can see what is happening inside their bodies before it becomes an emergency, and act on it, with real clinicians, at a price that belongs in this market.
But the product is only half of it. Health is not something you do alone; it is something a community keeps you honest about. We are building JiVa Labs as a membership: people who check in on their numbers, show up for each other, and treat prevention as a daily habit rather than an annual scare. Technology makes that possible at scale for the first time. Emerging markets are where it matters most, because here prevention is not a lifestyle choice, it is the difference between a managed condition and a catastrophe.
If you have read this far, you are probably the kind of person we are building with. Join us. Wear the band, open the app, bring your family. Being proactive about your health should be ordinary. We intend to make it so.
JiVa Care is open now for members living with a chronic condition: the JiVa Band, a nurse desk reading it around the clock, and a health report every week. Become a member →
